When Brady first came to Ketcha Outdoors as a camper, he discovered more than just a summer program. Camp gave him the space to explore, try new things, and build lasting friendships. Those summers outdoors helped him grow in confidence and showed him the value of teamwork and responsibility. Lessons that would stay with him well beyond camp.
As he grew older, Brady’s connection to our organization continued. When it was time for his first bike, he came to the Portland Gear Hub. There, he picked out a refurbished bike that became much more than a way to get around. That first bike gave him freedom, independence, and the chance to explore his community on his own terms. It was a milestone that represented opportunity and possibility.
Eventually, Brady returned to Ketcha once more—this time as a counselor. Stepping into a leadership role, he became the one who welcomed nervous first-time campers, guided them through activities, and encouraged them to discover their own strengths. The same camp that shaped his childhood is now the place where he can give back, helping the next generation of campers feel the same sense of belonging and joy that meant so much to him.
Brady’s story reflects what makes Ketcha Outdoors, including the Portland Gear Hub, so special. From camper to bike rider, to counselor, every step of his journey was supported by programs that help young people grow, explore, and thrive.
Your support makes stories like Brady’s possible. With your gift, more children will have the chance to learn, ride, and build the kind of lasting connection to the outdoors and community that will stay with them for life.
