Mini + Junior Nature Discovery
This camp is geared towards our younger campers who aren’t quite ready for Outdoor Survival Camp yet. Campers will focus on outdoor skills like fire building, hiking, shelter building, and orienteering and leave no trace while exploring our Camp Ketcha woods.
Campers will engage in a variety of activities aimed at honing their outdoor skills and fostering a deeper connection with nature. They will embark on hikes through our expansive 107-acre property, exploring old-growth forests, streams, and wetlands. Archery practice will enhance their focus and precision, while lessons in basic map and compass usage and orienteering will sharpen their navigation abilities. Practical knowledge of knot applications and fire-making techniques will be imparted, contributing to their survival skills.
In addition to these hands-on experiences, campers will learn to identify plants and animal scat, gaining insights into the ecosystem they are immersed in. The camp experience includes a campfire cookout, providing a communal setting to apply newfound skills in outdoor cooking.
The learning outcomes of the camp extend beyond the immediate activities. Participants will be able to identify common plants and wildlife in the ecosystem, demonstrating an increased awareness of their natural surroundings. Understanding the principles of Leave No Trace will equip campers with the knowledge to minimize their environmental impact. The camp also aims to instill a deeper respect for the natural world, emphasizing each individual’s role in supporting a healthy environment. Participants will build trust, reliance, and connections with their peers, fostering a sense of community within the group.
