Exploring a Spring Stream: How Outdoor Learning Builds Academic & Cognitive Skills in Preschool

campketcha

This spring, the stream became a living classroom for our students—full of movement, questions, and discovery. In this post, Kailina shares a glimpse into that exploration through videos captured in real time, highlighting how curiosity leads the way.

As children investigate the flow of water, observe wildlife, and test their ideas, our teachers thoughtfully weave in academic and cognitive skill-building—supporting problem-solving, language development, and critical thinking in ways that feel natural and meaningful. It’s a powerful reminder that some of the deepest learning happens when children are given the space to explore, wonder, and make sense of the world around them.

This NEW Deep Dive video showcases videos from a bushwhacking hike and highlights some ways that teachers in the Reggio Emilia approach might integrate cognitive & academic skills into learning.
