Safety At Camp

Accreditation and Safety Initiatives

At Camp Ketcha, we’re committed to creating a safe, supportive, and empowering environment for every camper. Camp Ketcha is accredited through the American Camp Association, and we are members of the Maine Summer Camps Association. The American Camp Association believes that the physical and emotional safety of campers and staff is of paramount importance in the delivery of any camp experience.

Aquatics Safety

  • Certified & Prepared: Our waterfront staff are certified lifeguards and trained Water Safety Instructors, ensuring a safe experience in and around the water.

Emergency Preparedness

  • Staff: All staff members complete and are certified in:
    • CPR and First Aid

Risk Prevention and Awareness

We run comprehensive background checks on all staff and check all references before hiring.

  • Staff members complete a comprehensive pre-camp training, including:
    • Child abuse prevention
    • Mandatory reporter training
    • Positive behavior guidance and boundary-setting
    • MESH training (Mental, Emotional, and Social Health)
    • And more!

Licensed Care and Camper Wellbeing

  • Licensed Medical Oversight: Our Camp Nurse is a Licensed Practical Nurse, providing professional care and oversight throughout the summer.
  • Camper Mental Health Support: A licensed Master of Social Work (MSW) joins our team each summer as our Camper Support Specialist, helping meet the emotional and social needs of campers.

Safe Boundaries Education

  • Safe Boundaries & Respect: We practice and role-model safe boundaries with our campers and reinforce kindness, the rule of 3s, respecting personal boundaries, hands off the swimsuit zone, and the importance of sharing with a trusted adult.
