At Camp Ketcha, each day is thoughtfully structured to help campers feel comfortable, engaged, and part of a community. While each week brings new themes and special activities such as Carnival Week or the Color Parade, the overall flow of the day stays consistent. That consistency helps campers settle in, feel confident, and enjoy their experience.
Arrival and Morning Start
The day begins with camper arrival, when children are greeted by staff and guided to their groups. This is a key time for settling in, putting away belongings, reconnecting with counselors, and easing into the day. Once everyone is ready, groups come together for group games. This gives campers a chance to move, laugh, and start building connections right away.
Opening Circle and Community Connection
The whole camp then gathers for a short Opening Circle. This includes a song or shared activity that sets a positive tone for the day and brings everyone together. It is a simple but meaningful moment that reinforces camp as a shared experience and helps start the day with energy and connection.
Activity Blocks Throughout the Day
The day is built around structured activity blocks, where campers rotate through different program areas. These may include swimming, sports and group games, art and creative projects, drama and music, nature-based activities such as gardening or outdoor skills, and adventure elements like ropes or archery. Each activity is led by staff who guide participation, encourage teamwork, and support campers as they try new things. With a consistent schedule, campers quickly learn what to expect, which helps them feel more confident moving through their day.
Snack and Midday Breaks
Snack breaks are built into the day, giving campers time to rest, hydrate, and reset. These moments also allow for informal connections with their group and counselors. Throughout the day, campers are reminded to take care of themselves, whether that is reapplying sunscreen, drinking water, or taking a quiet moment when needed. Lunch is held in two staggered groups to keep things calm and organized. While one group eats, the other participates in group games, and then they switch. This structure keeps campers engaged while also creating space to relax, eat, and connect with friends. Counselors sit with campers, support conversation, and help ensure everyone feels included.
Afternoon Activities and Confidence Building
The afternoon continues with additional activity blocks, giving campers more opportunities to try new things, build skills, and stay active. By this point in the day, many campers feel more settled and confident. The familiar routine, consistent group structure, and supportive staff all help encourage participation and growth over time.
Closing Circle and Reflection
At the end of the day, campers come together for Closing Circle. This is a time to slow down, reflect, and end the day as a community. Back in their groups, campers often share rose and thorn moments, something they enjoyed and something that felt challenging. This helps children process their day and feel heard.
Departure and Pick Up
Pick up is often one of the busiest parts of the camp day. Campers remain with their counselors while staff coordinate dismissal and ensure each child is safely signed out.
If a counselor does not recognize you, please be prepared to show your ID. With many families coming and going throughout the summer, staff may not be able to recognize every caregiver each day. We appreciate your patience. Checking IDs is an important part of keeping every camper safe.
During this time, groups may play simple games or continue chatting while they wait. While it can feel energetic, dismissal is structured, supervised, and focused on safety and a positive end to the day.
